Terri Overton, Account Executive – Ashley Furniture and Dearden’s

Terri OvertonSince joining DSI Delivery in 2003, Account Executive Terri Overton has been instrumental in the growth and success of the clients she’s served. She began her career with DSI at the Lumberjack Furniture account, and was quickly promoted to Account Manager at Dearden’s. When Ashley Furniture HomeStores began contracting with DSI in 2009, Terri’s management role was expanded to include both Dearden’s and Ashley.

South East Group Director Dave Drury weighs in on Terri’s performance, “Her presence and dedication have contributed to the tremendous growth DSI has experienced with Ashley, increasing the initial base of two delivery teams to over twenty per day.” The efforts of Terri and her staff have enabled DSI to successfully handle the delivery volume created by Ashley’s aggressive expansion in the Southern California market. Drury adds, “Terri Overton is a true professional - organized, patient, and completely focused on improving the operation, for both DSI and the client,”

Terri’s numerous responsibilities at Ashley and Dearden’s require her to maintain a flexible schedule. Based at Ashley’s Distribution Center in Colton, she arrives early three days a week and works directly with the sub-haulers before they head out on their routes. On the other two days she comes in later to handle any issues that might come up as the delivery teams return to check-in. “For instance,” she says, “if there have been any damages, we have to determine whether the returned item was due to a manufacturing problem or attributable to delivery team handling.”

Ashley’s Home Delivery Manager Terry Garcia credits Overton with consistently maintaining an efficient operation. “She is the liaison between DSI’s sub-haulers and Ashley,” Garcia says, “so it’s important that we have a good relationship. I can count on Terri to help resolve issues so that all aspects of our deliveries run smoothly.”

Overton, who works closely with clients as well as sub-haulers, credits her success in developing a positive work environment to her patience, which, she says proudly, “comes from my mom. She is my mentor, my confident, and my best friend.”

Terri considers her colleagues part of her extended family. “All of the employees at DSI are treated with great trust, both personally and professionally. It’s easy to love your job when you know you’re appreciated.” Currently, Terri is content in her position as Account Executive. “I still have time to focus on my two teenagers,” she says. “When they’re older, I’ll be able to take on a larger role at DSI if the opportunity arises.”

Overton keeps busy at home in Moreno Valley running her children from one activity to the next, and taking care of her dog and two cats. She also has a stack of books waiting to be read.
