Terry Garcia, Home Delivery Manager – Ashley Furniture HomeStores

Terry GarciaAshley Furniture HomeStore’s Terry Garcia takes multi-tasking to a whole new level. In her current role as Home Delivery Manager, she has approximately forty people working in her operation.

Her many responsibilities include: monitoring the insource drivers and delivery carriers; supervising dispatchers and customer care personnel; handling will-call requests; interacting with DSI and other third-party providers; and all of the required clerical work that accompanies these tasks. In addition, because she wants her department to continue functioning at a high level of excellence, she spends time teaching and encouraging her team to go above and beyond what’s expected to do their job well.

Terry’s philosphy mirrors that of Ashley: “It takes more than just the ability to make good furniture to become the #1 selling brand of home furniture in North America. It takes Quality, Style, Selection, and Service.”

“Most of the time, I don’t have enough hours in the day,” she says, “but I love my job. Maybe it‘s because I’m a natural problem solver, but even when my schedule seems over-booked with challenges, I still have fun.”

Having been with Ashley for fifteen years, and “done everything,” Terry has an insider’s thorough understanding of Ashley Furniture. She has worked in customer service, customer pick up, scheduling, routing, and even as a market specialist. Within the last three years she held positions as office supervisor and delivery supervisor. Most recently Terry was promoted to her current position and looks forward to continued growth with the company.

Ashley continues to maintain a core group of company drivers in addition to approximately twenty DSI sub-haulers. “Since all of the delivery teams represent Ashley, it’s important that the third-party teams have the same product knowledge, installation and repair capabilities that our core drivers have.” Terry is working with DSI to provide product orientation for the sub-haulers. Classes will begin in these areas within the next few weeks.

Garcia depends on DSI’s Account Executive Terri Overton to be her liaison with the sub-haulers. “I really appreciate Terri’s continuing support,” she says. Overton and Garcia have developed a great working relationship. “Terry is a very dedicated and hard worker,” says Overton. “She expects nothing but the best from her people, and that includes our sub-haulers, because she sees us as part of the Ashley team. It’s a pleasure to work together with her to ensure the highest level of customer service.”

Married with three teenage children, Terry says that she’s really a homebody at heart. “My husband and I just like to be around our kids,” she says. She confesses that she catches naps on her days off to “recharge her batteries.”
