Contractor Profile
Josè Hernandez, JH Trucking
Josè Hernandez grew up in the trucking
business with DSI. In 1999, as a high school
teenager, he began his career as helper for a DSI
contractor delivering for Sit ‘n Sleep. Several years
later he became a driver with another contractor.
Then in 2003 he bought his first truck and created
JH Trucking. Doing business as JH Trucking, he
became one of the youngest contract drivers to join
the DSI team.
“People were skeptical at first,” he says. “It was a
challenge to prove to everyone that I could be successful.
Now I have three trucks operating, and my old friends
who didn’t think I could do it are working for me!”
Josè believes that hard work, faith, and confidence
in himself form the foundation of his success. However,
to stay on top in the trucking business he says, “You must
maintain good service and always make certain that the
customer is happy.”
“That is also the philosophy at DSI and Sit ‘n Sleep.
This makes it a pleasure to work with both companies.”
Josè makes certain that his helpers share
this commitment. “I train all my new hires myself,”
he states. “I make sure they understand that the
customer is the priority before they go out on the
job.”
Josè recalls one grateful customer who
offered to let him cool off in the pool after a
particularly difficult set up in the middle of a
recent summer’s heat wave. Tempting as it was,
Josè settled for a bottle of water.
Georgette Cuellar, Account Manager at Sit ‘n Sleep,
tells the Dispatch that JH Trucking can be counted on to
complete deliveries in a timely and professional manner. “Their response is always positive, and customers especially
appreciate their attention to detail,” says Georgette.
When he’s not working, Jose enjoys spending time
with his family, especially his baby son Matthew, going for a
run, playing basketball, and taking everyone camping. |
