Employee Profile
Georgette Cueller, Account Manager at Sit 'n Sleep
Georgette Cuellar, one of five employees celebrating their tenth anniversary with DSI this year, has had a varied career with the company. She recalls her first job as a part time pre-caller at Sit ‘n Sleep, one of the company’s early accounts. “I gave customers their delivery time frame before we had the technology to do that electronically.”
Within a year, she was promoted to full time dispatcher, and by 2001 became a Co-Account Manager at Sit ‘n Sleep. Not long after, she was promoted again, to Account Manager at Mattress Gallery, where “For the first time, I ran my own operation.” In 2003, Georgette moved to Circuit City, Walnut and managed that account.
She returned to Sit ‘n Sleep in 2006, again as Co- Account Manager, and has since been promoted to Account Manager.
Georgette laughs remembering her jobs before joining the company. “I had six small children, so part time work allowed me to be home as much as possible. But then I joined DSI, and the rest is history.”
As Account Manager, Georgette oversees the entire delivery operation. “Both companies must do what’s best for their individual needs. Aside from daily responsibilities such as making sure trucks deliver product to customers on time and in good order, and signing off on various reports, keeping Sit ‘n Sleep and DSI on track is the most important part of my job.”
Carlos Batrez, Director of Logistics at Sit ‘n Sleep, points to Georgette’s comprehensive understanding of the goals of both companies as being key to her success. “This enables her to be proactive, which prevents future problems,” he says. “Furthermore, her team respects her and the decisions she makes.”
“In my role as the DSI representative on site, I interact a great deal with the client to maintain a good working relationship,” she says.
South Group Director Dave Drury marvels at the ease with which Georgette juggles the responsibilities of a large and lively family, and a large and demanding account. “And she still keeps her sense of humor, “ he says.
Adds Dick Connole, South Group Director and Georgette’s supervisor, “As one of the most dependable and capable managers I have ever worked with, Georgette is an asset to both Delivery Solutions and our clients.’
Georgette finds that changes in the economy make it challenging to help the contractors maintain their livelihood. “It’s hard when you learn that some of them have lost their homes and are struggling to survive. But we’re working with them and trying to do everything we can to help.”
Being a part of DSI is like belonging to a large extended family, Georgette says. “We work through issues together, and celebrate together, like a real family.”
A case in point occurred shortly after she had joined DSI when she drew “the head of the family,”company president Dave Thompson, in the holiday gift exchange. She worried that he might not get the humor of her gift, a pair of “porcupine”door mats. But Dave’s wife Anna-Marie alleviated Georgette’s concern by commenting that they were a wonderful addition to their new home.
DSI is also literally a family affair for Georgette. Her father-in-law is a former contractor for the company, and her mother Lila works as a receptionist in the corporate office.
Georgette’s six children, who range in age from 21 to 13, keep her busy at home. But when she gets the chance, she loves to work in the garden, read, and concentrate on her latest hobby – scrapbooking. |
