Employee Profile

Rudy Flores, Account Manager at Living Spaces

Rudy Flores, DSI Delivery’s Account Manager at Living Spaces, begins his work in the early morning at their Distribution Center to facilitate the retailer’s policy of same-day deliveries. First, he oversees dispatching and routing, and aids independent haulers with product preparation. “I do whatever I can to help them get on the road as quickly as possible.”

Once the trucks leave the warehouse, Rudy’s turns his attention to clerical duties including billing, and handling the occasional in-home and product damage claims.

“My fellow Account Manager Carlo Camacho, my supervisor Karen Bustamante, and I share a commitment to keeping the Living Spaces’ promise to its customers, ‘Buy Today, Enjoy Tonight.’ Our days are challenging, but the relationship we have with each other, the delivery teams, and the client makes it all worthwhile. “

Account Executive Karen Bustamante says “the client enjoys working with Rudy. They know they can count on him to make quick decisions and solve any issues that arise. Rudy is valuable member of my team.”

Living Spaces takes an aggressive approach to continually refining its operation. When management has an idea for a change in procedure, it becomes policy the next day. However, “they listen to our input, and are willing to take advice from those of us ‘on the front lines’. It’s this team approach that contributes to the success of everyone involved.”

Rudy joined DSI seven years ago. He has served as account executive and manager for DSI clients including Mattress Discounters in San Diego. He credits his success to his focus on customer satisfaction and a close relationship with the client and the customer. “It’s the personal, one on one aspect of my job on every level that’s most important,” he says.

Sometimes the “up close and personal” can lead to unintended consequences. After the successful delivery of furniture to a home in a rural community, Rudy received a call from a driver who found the customer standing in front of his truck, refusing to allow him to leave. Apparently she wanted both he and his helper to join her ongoing celebration in honor of the new items. “But our delivery teams are professionals,” Rudy says, “they were polite, but firmly refused until she finally stepped aside.”

Flores believes it is the DSI team spirit and “family” atmosphere that sets it apart from other companies. “The company has been very good to me,” he says. He is especially grateful to DSI’s support and contribution toward his nephew’s recent heart transplant. (see story on page 4)“My goal is to remain with DSI, continuing to grow with the company and taking on more responsibility.”

Flores has already achieved that goal at home. By the time this issue is published, he and his wife and two daughters will have welcomed a new addition to the family, a baby boy. When he’s not busy as a hands-on dad, Rudy plays golf. “Next to my family,” he says, “it’s my passion.”
